Since 1928, when fifteen farmers founded the Calitzdorp Wine Cellar in order to export Hanepoot grapes, this cellar in the heart of the "Port capital of South-Africa" has offered choice products to discerning clients.
Exciting wines like Touriga Nacional can be tasted at the cellar. These wines boast with a new label on which the rare ecological phenomenon, the red hills surrounding Calitzdorp, appears.

The cellar is situated overlooking the beautiful Gamka River Valley, with a big stoep where wines can be tasted while enjoying a picnic lunch.

Meet the winemaker: Alwyn Burger is the winemaker and manager at Calitzdorp Wine Cellar. He was born and raised between the vineyards on a farm in Montagu. He farmed for a while and was assistant winemaker at Groblershoop. Later in his career he studied at Elsenburg before he joined the Calitzdorp team.
His favourite wine from the cellar: He loves wine. For every event there is a good wine - white, red, sweet – so long it is enjoyed. His wife, Dalena, is a good cook and they love to drink the red wines from the cellar during mealtimes, especially the Shiraz and Touriga Nacional.
Fact about Alwyn you probably did not know: He loves his Labrador Retrievers, is a mountain biker, enjoys to tour with friends, likes to take photographs and camping in the veldt.

Meet the assistant winemaker: Abraham Pretorius started working as a gardener in 1996 at Calitzdorp Wine Cellar and worked his way up to assistant winemaker. Abraham went on an exchange program in 2006 to France for 3 months where he gained some experience on French winemaking and is presently busy with his national certificate in winemaking.
His favourite wine from the cellar: His favourite wine from the cellar is the Muscadel and Hanepoot. He definitely has a sweet tooth!
Fact about Abraham you probably did not know: He loves cooking and listens to Gospel music.

Meet the Marketing Representative:  Lynette Faas is the marketing representative for Calitzdorp Wine Cellar, concentrating in the Southern and Eastern Cape.
Her favourite wine from the cellar: Calitzdorp Cabernet Sauvignon and Tinto. She loves a full-bodied red wine.
Fact about Lynette you probably did not know: She loves to pamper women with beauty treatments in her spare time and her sport is jogging.

Meet the tasting room personnel:  Madridlene van der Berg works at Calitzdorp Wine Cellar as tasting room assistant and is involved with wine tastings, wine sales and administration.
Her favourite wine from the cellar: Calitzdorp Golden Jerepigo – nicely balanced and a real winter warmer.
Fact about Madridlene you probably did not know: She studied Food and Beverage Management at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

Meet the tasting room personnel: Elsie Calitz is Calitzdorp Wine Cellar’s administrative officer - stock. Her main function is the admin of the stock produced and sold by the cellar, but she is always at hand to help with wine tastings and sales in the tasting room.

Her favourite wine from the cellar: Calitzdorp Rosé – in her own words “I love the Rosé, it is fruity and not to sweet and not to dry.”

Fact about Elsie you probably did not know: She bakes wedding cakes!
